Domain Backlinks: Good Links vs Spam

Raw backlink counts are easy to misread; relevance and referring-site quality matter much more.

A backlink from a relevant article on a credible site can be useful context. Thousands of links from unrelated directories, scraped pages, or identical anchor text can indicate manipulation. Referring domains are often more informative than raw link count, but they also require inspection.

Sample the strongest links manually. Check whether pages still exist, whether the surrounding content is relevant, and whether anchors look natural. Compare current links with archived site topics. A domain with spam history may create cleanup work without any benefit. Browse domains with backlink counts as a clue, not a promise.

Domain purchases involve risk. Verify marketplace information and perform independent legal and technical checks.
