BUYING DOMAINS

How Much Should You Bid on an Expired Domain?

Work backward from a realistic buyer thesis, holding cost, and the chance of no sale.

Decide your maximum bid before auction pressure builds. Estimate what a wholesale buyer would pay, then subtract marketplace fees, renewal costs, research time, and the risk that no buyer appears. If you plan to develop the name, use a separate budget tied to that project.

An automated appraisal is not a bid target. Comparable completed sales and credible use cases matter more. When evidence is thin, a lower ceiling or no bid is rational. Browse expired auctions after setting your rules.

Domain purchases involve risk. Verify marketplace information and perform independent legal and technical checks.
